Diabetes Alert Day

On March 23rd, the American Diabetes Association celebrated national Diabetes Alert Day. This day serves as a “wake-up call” to understand your risk for Diabetes and to emphasize the seriousness of the disease. According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Diabetes affects about 10.5% of the U.S. population. Additionally, more than 88 million people aged 18 years or older have prediabetes. Prediabetes “is a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes.” One key reason people become prediabetic is because they are overweight and unfortunately, according to the CDC, 42.5% of adults aged 20 and over are obese. At Zen Basil, we believe that the nutritional value of the basil seed can help millions around the world combat prediabetes and lose weight. Why are so many Americans Overweight? Doctor David A. Kessler, former Commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), speaks to Doctor Steven Gundry in a podcast on October 26th 2020 about the root cause of the overweight epidemic in America. Doctor David Kessler explains that this can be traced back “decades to the introduction of one specific food into our diet.” What is this harmful food? Processed foods and ultra-processed foods. Over the years, food manufacturers have studied human behavior and taste preferences. Doctor David Kessler explains that food is no longer just a combination of ingredients but rather is “highly complex creations, loaded up with layer upon layer of stimulating tastes that result in a multisensory experience for the brain.” Essentially, food manufacturers have crafted a business plan to “design food for irresistibility.” No wonder so many Americans are overweight!! The food companies sneak in ingredients to make their products irresistible.

1 Tablespoon of Zen Basil Contains 8 grams of Fiber

Did you know that just 1 tablespoon of Zen Basil will fulfill 27% of your daily fiber needs? In fact, 95% of Americans do not meet their fiber needs on a daily basis. Fiber is so important as it helps regulate bowel movement, lower blood glucose levels, and lowers cholesterol levels. All of these aspects are key in lowering your calorie intake and aiding in weight loss. High fiber foods are more filling and help you stay fuller and more satisfied for longer. Fiber is an easy way to maintain a healthy weight, and helps individuals lose weight as it helps control blood sugar levels. One easy way to incorporate more fiber into your diet is through the consumption of Zen Basil seeds.
