Zen Basil Seed Questions

With the launch of our new product Zen Basil Hydrate, and addition to all our new followers, we wanted to discuss some common questions we get about Zen Basil seeds. Please note that not all basil seeds have the same nutrient count or nutritional profile. As a matter of fact, the article in Healthline that was published on March 12, 2019, labeled “12 Fascinating Benefits and Uses of Basil Seeds”, they used Zen Basil’s nutritional facts, which is exclusive to Zen basil only. It was cited as, “Based on U.S. Product nutrition labels, 1 tablespoon (13 grams or 0.5 ounces of basil seeds supplies 15% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI) for calcium and 10% of the RDI for magnesium and iron.” This was our exclusive Nutritional fact sheet label from 2019. Since then we’ve updated our Nutritional fact sheet, currently in compliance with FDA‘s new label laws that went in effect in 2021.

Now that edible basil seeds are becoming a thing, the demand has also Attracted copycat products. The challenge is that copycat brands can pack just about anything without any Federal or State regulations. They can make claims about their product without any proof, and still sell on the biggest online platform.

We have identified brands with fraudulent claims of being Organic, using the USDA Organic logo illegally. Yet they still manage to sell online, even after we’ve reported them! We have identified brands that claimed to be “edible basil seeds, rich in fiber” yet have no nutritional fact sheet to back up their claims. Some brands of edible basil seeds claim their product is a supplement, which is also not true. Some brands even state that they are edible Tulsi or Holy basil seeds, which is false. Tulsi and Holy basil seeds are the same thing and are both not edible.

Please be advised there are basil seeds in general sold online that have nowhere near the nutritional profile of Zen basil seeds. Most articles about basil seeds are based on Zen Basil’s exclusive Nutritional Fact Sheet but referenced as US product nutrition labels. This implies all basil seeds have the same nutritional facts, which is false. We take pride in the fact that Zen Basil seeds have the highest nutritional health benefits over any other edible basil seed brands. You can read the full article here.
